Ceramic monolith is a part (block) of a catalyst, the interior of which contains precious metals – platinum, palladium and rhodium. Thanks to the presence of these elements within the monolith takes place a chemical reaction, during which toxic substances contained in the combustion gases are neutralised. Monoliths are ground and then examined for precious metal content.
